Nature Communication Assignment from 5-8-21
Dear Awesome Nature Communicators,

Kato's mobile cat bed!
Thank you for our Nature communication adventures on Saturday!
In class we communicated with Dubrae, a wild elephant living in Nepal, and the octopus from the film, The Octopus Teacher, and the last white Rhino, Sudan, who passed away a few years ago. (Yes, we can talk with any living being and those we consider to be dead. Animals teach us our spirit always lives on and many return in a new physical form to continue on their adventures. Sudan was very much alive when we talked with him and very gracious in his sharing.)
I remember hearing from these animals how important it is to remember our fellow human beings have lives, feelings and emotions too. For instance, when we talk with fellow humans about living in harmony with Nature it helps to come from a standpoint of knowing they love Nature too and that we aren't so different from one another. If we are sympathetic to the immediate needs and concerns they have for their families we can use our human ingenuity to work together to find solutions which align with the highest and best for all life on Mother Earth. When we listen to others concerns we find common ground realizing we truly are one and a win win life is totally possible for all individuals and all species.
Until we meet again in June:
1. Listen to others who have different opinions. Listen from the standpoint of curiosity and a desire to work together.
2. Listen with the desire to understand fully their point of view. Set aside your point of view temporarily so that you may listen to them fully. Imagine you are newly here from Mars and you know NOTHING about what it is like here. Get to know this person from the standpoint of wanting to know and understand. Give them the opportunity to be heard and let them know you heard them. You don't have to agree or disagree, just listen, ask questions and acknowledge what you heard.
3. Acknowledge them for anything you admire. Let me give you an example. When I lived in the Galapagos Islands for a few years I met fisherman who were fishing illegally. I was aligned with the national park with the desire to protect the species from overfishing which could cause extinction. Some species truly were suffering from overfishing. When I set aside my concerns about the marine life I was able to hear the fisherman's concerns about feeding their families. My position did not shift to, let's fish freely but what happened was I no longer saw the fisherman with such a negative viewpoint. I got that they were people who had other people they cared about. They also clearly shared how much they loved the islands, how proud they were of their country and how much they loved and cared for their families. I noticed myself seeing everything differently. I also heard their genuine concern about the ongoing survival of the species they fished. If these fish went extinct then they were out of work. The fact that I listened opened up new possibilities for working together to create a plan which would benefit all species. I no longer saw them as the enemy. I no longer needed to avoid them or avoid communication. I learned the value of communication. Communication can transform anything. (This is not to say everything is great there in the Galapagos today but it sure shifted my way of being and thinking around conflict with fellow human beings about the environment.) I'm thankful for what the marine and land species, and the humans, taught me there.
Ongoing explorations into transforming our world:
If you were the designer of human life living here at Mother Earth, how would that look? Imagine if you could wiggle your nose and have it however you wished what would life be like here? How does it feel to you to imagine this?
Let's create our visions of living in harmony, living in harmony with all life! Visions felt, powerfully create our tomorrows!
What visions have you unknowingly been a part of supporting? For example, what realities have you continued to think about and experience emotion over which upset you and continue to this day? What if you acknowledged they exist and then put your heart and mind to envisioning how you would love it to be? A personal example for me is the abuse of horses. I could stay in my upset reaction, or I can spend a bit of time creating a world where all horses are cherished. This takes a bit of thought. What is my choice? What is yours?
Thank you Awesome Nature Communicators!
Love,
Maia
